Hi, My name is Matthew Murphy; I am fundraising to bring the Project Lifesaver Program to our community. The Project Lifesaver Program will assist our First Responders in locating members of the Ayer Community with Autism, Dementia, Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disabilities that put them at greater risk of going missing by wandering away from their caregivers. The funds raised for this program will be donated to the Town of Ayer and the Ayer Police Department to obtain the equipment and training needed. Project Lifesaver uses proven radio technology and specially trained search and rescue teams to locate the enrolled community member who will be wearing a small transmitter on their wrist or ankle. These devices emit an individualized frequency signal. If a community member in the program goes missing, the caregiver notifies Ayer Police, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. The first responders will then use the client’s individualized frequency to locate the individual's position. In addition to the equipment needed, Project Lifesaver will include training on community policing courses that provide a basic understanding of cognitive conditions to comprehend an individual's behaviors better. Completion of training is required for certification. The knowledge given from the community policing courses is best applied in this situation because the first responders will know how to best approach the client once found and allow them to be brought back to safety. As the number of individuals with cognitive disabilities in our community rises, this program will assist in bringing these individuals home safely. If 358 members of our community can donate $45, we can establish this program in Ayer. Project Lifesaver's Program has helped provide thousands of families peace of mind daily, knowing that their loved ones have protection and safety in the case of wandering. To date, this program helped bring 3,966 people home safely. Thank you.
