Ayden's Eagle Scout Project: Kadens Kloset
Donation protected
My name is Ayden Thonstad. I have completed my junior year at West Sioux High School in Hawarden, Iowa. I participate in Track, Cross Country, multiple Choirs and Bands, Robotics, and other extracurricular activities. So life is busy. In addition, I am also a Boy Scout. It is one activity that has provided many benefits beyond my school learning. My current rank is Life Scout, which is one rank below Eagle Scout. I am really close to getting my Eagle, and have decided to develop a project that I can serve others with.
I am asking for your support with my Eagle Scout project. I will be putting together backpacks filled with personal care items for the foster kids entering into and moving around in the system. This project will support the needs expressed by our local Kadens Kloset.
This project holds special meaning to me because my family and I went through our own fostering experience a few years ago. One day, after school, my mother called me to tell me that we would be having guests over, and possibly, for a long time. I thought she had meant a family member or good friend. When she came home with the guests, I was shocked. I did not know them. I knew that one was in the grade ahead of me and that he was totally into art. The other one, his half-sister, was almost 2 years old with the biggest smile on her face. Right away, I was tasked with helping carry their stuff into the house. I went out to the van to look for backpacks or suitcases, but then my mother told me to grab the two black garbage bags. Think of that. You have nothing but your person and a black garbage bag. Your life thrown into a garbage bag!
My overall goal is to raise enough funds to complete 50 First Night Bags, so I have a funding goal of $3000. I am asking for monetary donations in order to purchase needed items so that kids that go through troubles like these will have something to call their own. Each First Night Bag will contain new items, such as: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, underwear, socks, pajamas, change of clothes, stuffed animal, toy, and other items.
I would be very grateful if you would be willing to help, not only me reach my goal, but more importantly, these children that have nothing to call their own other than the black garbage bags that they are given. More information about Kadens Kloset can be found at their website: http://www.kadenskloset.com/.
Thank you very much for your consideration and time in reviewing my project.
Sincerely,
Ayden Thonstad
