Autumn Ayala was born on March 8, 2002; at age 20 born with multiple chronic medical problems since birth. She has had numerous hospital stays that require the family to be at the bedside, unable to work to support the family's financial needs. Autumn began having stomach and intestinal failure three years ago, requiring TPN support, pain management, ileostomy care, and much more. She requires close supervision. Autumn has RN-level care at home, but when in the hospital, she is placed in an adult medical-surgical requiring her mom to be at the bedside advocating for her as she is her medical conservator. Although Autumn receives RN-level care, it is limited to 8 hours a day, while mom is expected to cover the remaining 16 hours of her care at that RN level. She does not always have a nurse as nurses are not always available. Mom's responsibilities are maintaining the central line and following sterile techniques to avoid unnecessary infection exposure. She manages TPN support, IV medication, ileostomy care, feeding tube, and her pain. Autumn remains isolated because she can’t afford to get ill as she is medically compromised, and any exposure could be a bad outcome. Autumn’s mom pays for multiple necessary supplies out of pocket, adding to a lot of money. Autumn has had ten surgical procedures this last year, requiring extended hospital stays. She has been on long-term antibiotics due to unresolved mastoiditis. She has an upcoming surgical procedure for her chronic ear infection due to cholesteatoma. Every hospitalization is financial stress for the family. A need for financial support for the Ayala family would be greatly appreciated.
