Ava Rose Slane : Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On May 10, 2012, a mother's WORST nightmare, now my family's reality for the rest of our lives, occurred. Ava Rose (7yo) was playing with her friends outside of her house on her Razor scooter and was suddenly hit by an illegally operated, unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered and irresponsible motorcyclist.  Unfortunately, she was not wearing a helmet.

She was rushed to the nearest hospital where they could airlifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.  From there, she underwent several major surgeries in the first 3 days.  She had an emergency craniectomy, removing half of her skull,  and had several pins placed in her left leg.  Since then, Ava has endured through the toughest battle of her life: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)recovery.

Ava has severe TBI and because of such injuries, she now has intractible epilepsy, aphasia and poor motor skills/coordination dysfunction.   We've tried the Ketongenic diet which seemed to help in the beginning of her recovery but, the seizures have since gotten worse (sometimes exceeding 30 seizures before lunch time) and sometimes even vomits in her sleep because of the seizures.  She has physical therapy, and occupational therapy only 1-2 days a week now (due to insurance coverages) and has hippotherapy for a half an hour once a week (horse riding therapy).

We would like to help Ava and her family by raising funds for a handicap accessible vehicle to transport Ava to and from therapy as well as help with other intensive therapy to help Ava on her very long journey to recovery.

Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated, and please share the story of this brave girl and family with everyone you know and help make 2017 a turning point for Ava in her road to recovery!!
