My beautiful granddaughter, Ava Milani Giardillo, has been in the hospital fighting for her life since she was born on August 4th.
She has CHARGE syndrome and has a number of life-threatening medical conditions. She has already endured two heart surgeries.
On Saturday, November 14th, the hospital advised my son that Ava is in heart failure and in need of a heart transplant to survive. She has been placed as top priority on the national heart transplant list. She is such a little warrior and fighter!
Since her birth, Billy and his girl have spent every spare minute at the hospital with Ava. Their financial situation has been severely and unexpectedly affected. They met serving our country in the US Navy and Billy had been going to college but can no longer go to school full time since Ava’s birth.
Please pray for baby Ava and her parents during this time. It’s something no parent should have to go through and finances should be the least of their worries. They have had to endure all alone because family isn’t allowed at the hospital. No one has even been able to see Ava through all of this because of the global pandemic.
February 2021 - The last few months have been a rollercoaster. Ava received her heart transplant but in the weeks following there were just too many complications and the heart was rejected. They were given the option to withdraw treatment or to try an artificial heart to give her time to possibly get back onto the heart transplant list. Ava had a double VAD artificial heart operation and has been holding steady. It was been very scary and we almost lost her several times. The doctors and nurses have been absolutely top notch in caring for Ava, but , if she is able to receive another transplant, she would have to go to Milwaukee, WI for care as they would be best able to handle her case.
Thank you for your continued prayers and thoughts for Ava and her parents. Ava is now 6 months old and has been in the hospital since birth with no end in sight. Please continue to lift up the family in your prayers. It is so hard for them in every way possible.
