Austin Wall's Bone Marrow Battle
Donation protected
It's been tough for me to share with my friends about my brother, Austin Wall, and his fight for his life these past 6 months.
I'm now reaching out to my community for help.
My brother, Austin, has always been the kindest person who shows up for his family as a devoted single dad, a loyal friend, and someone who works hard to provide for his family. He is now facing a battle that he can’t fight alone.
Austin has been diagnosed with aplastic anemia and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), both are rare and life-threatening blood diseases. Without treatment, these diseases could progress into acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His only hope for survival now is a bone marrow transplant—a procedure that comes with extreme physical, emotional, and financial challenges.
Our brother, Gabriel, is giving Austin a lifesaving gift by being his donor. This Friday, 2/21, both of my brothers will undergo the procedure of a bone marrow transplant at the University of Washington Medical Center. After the procedure, Austin will need to live near the Fred Hutch facility for intensive monitoring over the next several months to a year.
This is going to be a long road ahead, and this transplant is just the beginning. We have found out recently that Austin will be unable to work for up to 1-2 years as he fights to rebuild his immune system and be sure he doesn't contract graft versus host disease. He will endure months of isolation, rigorous medical treatments, and the overwhelming costs that come with this battle. Gabe, too, will be out of work for at least a month as he recovers from his donation.
This is how I'm asking you to help.
This will help relieve the financial burden so that Austin and Gabe can focus on what truly matters: recovery and survival.
Donations can help cover Austin’s medical expenses, ongoing treatments, and living costs while he recovers.
To help Gabe through his recovery as he gives a part of himself to save Austin’s life. This will help him take time off work to recover.
The other way you will be helping is by spreading the awareness of Aplastic anemia and PNH, a condition incredibly rare, and many patients in need of a transplant never find a match. By sharing this fundraiser, you can help raise awareness and encourage others to sign up as potential donors through Be The Match.com
No donation is too small. Whether you contribute financially, share this page, or join the registry as a potential marrow donor, your support means the world to us.
Much gratitude,
