This is my brother Austin Doner. He is a Navy veteran who was assigned to the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan from 2008-2012. He was dealt a serious blow to his health when he and his shipmates received a large dose of radiation from the humanitarian mission to Fukushima Japan after the tsunami hit the nuclear power plant. After struggling with colitis for years he was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2020. April 2021 he had a crisis and developed blast cells. He ended up in the James Cancer institute. They didn’t know if he would make it but he pulled through after they gave him a large dose of chemo.  He has been through multiple rounds of different Chemotherapies and treatments. He will hopefully be able to receive a stem cell transplant but we are still fighting to get him into remission before that can happen. There were many more people on the USS Ronald Reagan and other ships who developed a variety of cancers. They had thyroid cancers, cancers of reproductive organs, blindness and deaths/deformities to babies of the women that were pregnant on the ship.  The doctors have written letters saying they believe these cancers were caused from the exposure to radiation. He has filed appeals for his VA benefits but so far they have not been approved. My dad is hoping we can bring awareness to this situation and hope to make contact with other people on the ships who have been through similar issues after the time on the ship. 
 He has a daughter (10) and two sons (8,6) that he hasn’t been able to see much. He hasn’t  been able to be there for them or help them out financially. He has a compromised immune system and has spent months at a time in a hospital room. Thinking about them has kept him fighting but he is exhausted. The added stress of filing the appeals for disability and having no income has really taken a toll on him.
