In the wake of the storm that recently swept through Texas, many Austin TX residents are left without water.  Water pipes froze and burst in many households, and the water to those houses must remain turned off until the pipes can be repaired.  Water is essential, people need access to water.  For drinking, for cooking, and for sanitary living.

Time estimates for repairs from professional plumbers are currently at least 2 months out.  That is too long to wait for water to be restored.  Living without water for 2+ months would create a variety of issues for individuals - health, safety, emotional, and more.  In addition to the time delay, repairs will be prohibitively costly for many individuals.

Here is an anonymous quote from a professional plumber in Austin TX: "I really want to put my guys out there doing free repairs for the community, but I'll lose my license and get sued if I do. Texas is f*cked."

Yes, you read that correctly.  Texas does not allow plumbers to do repair work for free.

We can not and will not wait 2+ months to restore water to our communities.

We are putting together a repair army of unpaid guerrilla plumbers to restore water to our communities.  These are skilled competent individuals who know how to fix broken plumbing pipes.   We need supplies for these repairs efforts.  Many items will have to be ordered from out of state, because there is already a shortage of supplies all over the state of Texas.  We need your assistance to purchase supplies.

Please donate to this campaign to help us restore water to out communities in Austin TX.  We are starting with a $10K goal, but we hope we exceed this amount in raised funds.  All funds collected will go directly toward these repair efforts.

Thank you for your concern, your care, and your dollars.  Austin TX won't forget you...and we'll be toasting your assistance with big glasses of water as we restore the pipes. ❤️

Austin Guerilla Plumber Corps FAQ

Who are you?

We are people who can do some plumbing. We are not certified, professional plumbers.  We are citizens helping other citizens during an emergency. Some of us are more skilled than others and we have some equipment.  We are working with Austin Mutual Aid.

Are you asking for compensation?

No. We are donating our own time and efforts.

Who pays for supplies?

Sometimes we pay for them out of pocket, sometimes they are donated. This campaign has been created so people can donate to these repair efforts. The funds are not used to compensate workers.

How do you prioritize jobs?

We take in requests through this form . We look for the severity of the situation plus compatibility with our skills. We can’t fix broken municipal water mains, but we can fix burst pipes within residential households so that the water to those households can be turned back on. It’s going to be messy, but we will try to prioritize the most severe problems we are capable of helping with.

What kind of work can you do?

We can fix burst pipes, turn the supply off or on, and a few other basic things.  We work with copper, PVC, PEX, etc. Some of us have plumbed entire houses.  Our goal is to stabilize the residence so it remains habitable. Think of it as first aid.

What if you fix something for a big multiplex owned by a corporation? Are you just giving them a gift?

Yes, we will do as much as we can to get the residents into habitable homes, and it may benefit landlords we wouldn't otherwise care to give to. When this is all over, we may come back around and say something like “Hey, we did you a favor back there, would you consider donating to a homeless fund?”
