Aussie Humanitarian Aid & Medic Volunteer-Ukraine

We are raising funds for a family member who has been volunteering at his own expense as a medic and humanitarian aid worker in Ukraine. After 4 months in-country his funds are depleted, and there is still an enormous amount of work to be done.

This is a brief overview of his experience in his own words.

After Russia invaded Ukraine I spent several months selling possessions, organising travel and equipment before traveling to Poland, then Ukraine.
In both countries, I worked with organisations assisting thousands of refugees to access aid, food, emergency payments, medical treatment, psychological help and evacuation transport.

These people were emotional, exhausted and mostly without a clear plan of what to do. They included many ill, injured, traumatised people, elderly, wheelchair and stretcher-bound people and orphaned children.
Many had lived under Russian occupation. They had seen families, homes, communities and lives brutally destroyed.

I cannot disclose names of persons, places, or organisations for security and safety reasons.

Currently, I am a volunteer member of a NGO ( Non-Government Organisation) with relevant medical experience. We deliver direct medical aid and training to Ukrainian civilians, police and military. Training in combat casualty care means severely injured soldiers can receive immediate trauma life support care before evacuation to hospitals.

Shrapnel blast injuries caused by artillery, mortars, drones, and missile strikes are the largest causes of civilian injuries. Adequate first aid training can prevent unnecessary deaths.

Temperatures are currently subzero. Power outages cause extreme difficulties with heating, cooking, washing, shopping and communications. Periods in bunkers are a daily occurrence. Humanitarian runs deliver supplies to freezing remote villages with damaged critical infrastructure.

I intend to remain in Ukraine for the foreseeable future. My efforts will be medical, delivering training such as "Stop The Bleed" to Ukrainian nationals and operating as a medic.

Up until now this work has been funded entirely at my own expense. All donations will be immensely appreciated and go directly to enable me to remain volunteering and supporting Ukranians with urgent assistance in this crisis.

Thank you sincerely for your consideration. I am grateful for any financial aid you are able to provide.
