Aurora County made history in November 2025 as the FIRST county in South Dakota to officially proclaim October as First Responders Appreciation Month.
Now we're launching South Dakota Safety Days : October 9th & 10th, 2026 to celebrate and support the brave first responders who protect our rural community every day.
On January 21st, 2026, Governor Larry Rhoden signed a statewide proclamation designating October 2026 as First Responders Appreciation Month for the entire State of South Dakota, crediting Aurora County's leadership.
Why This Matters:
96% of South Dakota firefighters are volunteers - the highest rate in the nation
Rural first responders often lack funding for essential equipment and training
Aurora County's historic proclamation inspired all 66 South Dakota counties to follow. Your support helps keep that movement going
South Dakota Safety Days brings our community together for safety demonstrations, educational programs, family activities, and fundraising to support our local fire departments, sheriff's office, and EMS services.
Proceeds go directly to Aurora County first responders for:
Critical safety equipment
Training and certifications
Emergency response resources
Based on the success of this inaugural event, we're planning to establish a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to continue this important work annually. Your support helps build the foundation for lasting change.
IMPORTANT DISCLOSURE: This event is organized by TilTechDoUsPart LLC, a for-profit limited liability company. All contributions are NOT tax-deductible. Proceeds support Aurora County fire, police, and EMS departments.
Whether you're a local business that wants to be part of something meaningful, a former resident wanting to give back, or a supporter of rural first responders nationwide, your contribution makes a real difference.
Join us in celebrating Aurora County's historic leadership and supporting the heroes who protect our community 24/7!
