We are the Elliott-Cunningham/Johnson Family. We are a blended family of five for 5 years now. It had come to a point in our lives where we need to relocate due to the outstanding cost of living in Santa Cruz, California. Due to this factor, we have been in court fighting for the right to move out of Santa Cruz county with our son London. London has been under our primary care for the full extent of his life. He is 8 years old and up until two years ago he saw his biological father only once or twice every couple of months. His biological father filed for joint custody when he learned of our desires to relocate; and after two years of staying here due to his unwillingless to let us leave. We simply can no longer survive in. We were able to make it this far but now we need your help
Santa Cruz is a beautiful, amazing place to live, if you can afford it. However, for a family of five, it is no longer sustainable or possible for us to continue living here. Financially we are struggling incredibly to keep a roof over our families head. As difficult as that is to acknowledge; it is just simply too expensive. We currently live in one of the most expensive places across the nation and are striving every day to change that.
Our court case is called a move away case and after long deep thought from all aspects of our minds. With all members of our family into consideration we have concluded to move to sunny Sacramento. It’s a place where the river is beautiful, the housing is affordable, education opportunities are great and creating a sustainable life for our family is possible. We want to bring our son London with us, as this decision includes all members of the Elliott-Cunningham/Johnson family And he wants to come with us as well. Currently we have about 65% custody, and we have been London’s rock from day one. He has 2 siblings that he absolutely adores and it would be detrimental for all three kids to have them separated.
We have represented ourselves through this whole process because the cost to hire legal representation as well as maintain our bills in Santa Cruz was not in our scope of finances. However, it has now come to a place in the court case where we no longer feel confident in representing ourselves.
We are moving into what is called a evidentiary hearing. Meaning, we will be calling witnesses, presenting evidence and vital information to back up our positions and to provide support for the judge to make her final decision. In other words; We are going to court to fight for our son. We have little to no knowledge or training for this, and we feel strongly that we need legal representation to best present our case to the judge.
Our intentions are to do all that we can to give our children and our family a chance at a fulfilled, successful and prosperous life. And at this exact moment in time, we can’t do it alone.
We are attempting to raise 5,000 dollars of the 8,000 needed to obtain proper representation.
We are reaching out to you to ask if you would be willing to donate any amount to help us obtain a lawyer. We would not ask unless it was absolutely imperative. Our next court date is on June 25th so needless to say we don’t have much time, and we have to be smart and quick.
If you feel moved to help us in anyway, we would be incredibly overwhelmed and eternally grateful. No help is to small. Everything counts.
