Leukemia, single mom & legal fees

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Laura Blundo and I am fund raising for my dear friend, Emily Colón.

Two years ago,  Emily was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and was admitted to the hospital that same day to begin an intensive 45-day inpatient treatment program.  That left Emily making arrangements from her hospital bedside for someone to care for her 11 year old daughter (her son was away at school). Somehow she managed, with a strong faith and the help of family and friends, to get through that very difficult time – of feeling physically and soulfully sick.

In fewer than six months from her initial diagnosis, Emily was admitted again, this time for 27 days, for a bone marrow transplant.  As a single parent,  she made arrangements her sweet daughter and for someone to stay with with them both 24/7 once Emily was discharged from the hospital because she couldn’t be left alone post-transplant for a period of 90 days.  Emily’s immunities had been intentionally wiped out in order for her to receive the donor’s gift of life.  All this during Covid, too, put Emily at an even greater risk.  Thankfully, she and the children have all survived with large portions of grace, grit and gratitude.

I am writing now because Emily is again fighting for the well-being of herself and her children.  Not being able to rejoin the workforce due to her weakened immunities and Covid. She is the sole provider due unforeseen circumstances and she is having  to support them alone. Her sole means of income went away when Emily  lost her business due to her health, covid and other factors.  These other factors have lead to court actions and she needs help to continue to fight in the cases.

Clearly, Emily is a fighter, and used to managing even the toughest of circumstances.  It is my aim that, with the help of people that love and care for her, to lend a hand in the only way we can right now – by helping Emily with legal fees.  Too many single mothers have gone without in the direst of circumstances.  Emily has stayed the course and been there for her children.  Now, we have the opportunity to support her in a meaningful way and we can lighten the load for someone who has been a shining example of strength at a time when most anyone else would have buckled.

Please help us help Emily, whether you know her personally or simply wish to be part of a community of women who are willing to stick together and lend a helping hand to a fellow sister when she’s down.

Together, we can do this!
