Asylum Seekers need legal fee help
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kate. I am fundraising for a friend of mine who is seeking asylum. She is an amazing person, really connected to her local community and church and has retrained and is doing important work as a carer of people with special needs. She is giving so much back to the community, and her grand daughter is doing so well in school.
It breaks my heart to think that because she can't afford to take her case to a Judicial Review in Australia, after almost 10 years on her bridging visa awaiting a decision on whether she and her grand daughter can stay, they may be returned to their country of origin where things are very unsafe for them.
The court and legal fees could add up to $20,000 or more, and without support she will have to give up. It doesn't seem right that due to the high cost of going to court she may not be able to run the full course of all the administrative and legal options.
Funds raised will be used to give her confidence she can go ahead with the court case. If we don't need all the money we will give the balance to a local refugee charity to support other refugees in our area.
This is the best way I can help my friend. Please can you help us? We will be eternally grateful.
