Helping Nicole’s children after her death

Donation protected
On the 15th of November 2023, Nicole Scanes passed away unexpectedly at age 45, leaving behind four children. Two of her children are still minors, one of which has an intellectual disability with complex health care needs. As a single mother, Nicole was the only parent that her children had and losing her so suddenly has turned their lives upside down.

Her oldest son, Leighton, has now taken over primary carer responsibilities for his younger siblings so that they are able to remain in the home their mother sacrificed so much to buy for them. Leighton, who had only 2 months prior begun FIFO work, has had to leave work without any access to paid leave and, due to the unexpected nature of her death, there were no funds set aside for the children’s living expenses. We have not been able to access family payments for the children and, therefore, there are no funds coming in to the household, aside from small amounts that family are able to contribute.

We are asking that you please rally around the children and support them during their time of greatest need. We don’t generally like to ask for help, however, we have run out of options and are struggling to provide for them.

Any funds raised will be used to provide for the children’s everyday expenses until family payments are approved and Leighton is able to return to the workforce. Any donation, small or large, will be greatly appreciated.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support.
