Assistance Dog for Hamish

Hi - My name is Hamish and I’m 14 years old. All my life I have been different and have known that I’m different. I am Autistic and so are my older brother and younger sister. I also have a lot of other behavioural problems which are made worse by my autism. This makes life really hard to bear and makes it really hard on my family too. I am not easy to live with and find it really hard to make friends and go out into the world. I often feel very alone and miss having a best mate. This often results in me “acting out” – basically causing mum and dad A LOT of stress

Mum and Dad have recently helped me get training with an assistance dog – which I REEAALLY LOVE!! I feel less lonely when I’m with the dog and much more confident – I can actually do things for myself.

The problem is assistance dogs are very expensive – and NDIS cannot help

Mum and Dad with the cost. This makes me feel very sad and upset – I would really like a best mate that could me control my behaviour better and help make my life – and my family – happier.
