Assist Rick & Cheryl B. in Their Time of Need

Rick & Cheryl B. could really use a bit of help for the moment. This is not a charity case, constantly in need of handouts. But about a family who's recently had health struggles, that put us in a situation where we're waiting for the system we have both put into, to finally work for us. We have grown kids who have been pitching in to help, but we don't want to be a burden & put a strain on them. Some of our kids are just beginning to make a life of their own.

I'm  not quite retirement age, have worked steadily since a teenager., & served 14+ years in the military. About 1.3 years ago while working at a good job, I went to the ER for an injury. The cause of the ailment turned out to be the symptom of a terminal illness. While through the VA, they're treating the afflictions & symptoms, there's no cure, & at that time doctors estimated I'd live 3 more years. I've filed suit in the Camp Lejeune Toxic water case, where I was stationed at for 4 years, back in the 1980's. Which more than likely caused my condition, but this won't payout for another 1.5 years. I'm currently waiting for social security disability, which hopefully will be approved in the next 6 months, as after initially being denied on paper, I have an in person hearing in front of a judge in December. I'm also waiting on veteran's benefits to kick in, but it's tangled in the built-in bureaucracy of our gov't.

My wife has faced her own health issues, as she's a breast cancer survivor. After working many years, she has been receiving SSI ($950/month), our only income, for the last year. In the interim, we've used our savings & maxed out all of my credit cards.

Due to our health issues, & not being fit to return to my job, we recently moved back to Pa. from Kansas City. We've been staying with Cheryl's daughter the last 6 months, & have recently rented a place from friends. Now, Cheryl has an immediate issue: she has had a bad cough for 2 months. After waiting for an appt, last week found out she has a respiratory infection. Still owing part of our security deposit, we can't afford her 2 discounted $120 medication.

We got a break on our utility deposits, & internet, but have an old mini fridge, & can use little odds & ends.

We are asking for at least $5000 from our family members, for general life expenses during the next 6 months.
