Assist Family in Moving After Son's Shooting

On Saturday, July 27th 2024 at 7:23pm my son was shot in South Minneapolis on 26th & Cedar Avenue in front of Little Earth housing. He was on his way on a scooter to see myself and other family members at the Red Lake - Mino Biimiidiziwin Apartments. He was at a stop light taking a call and as he went to put his phone back in his pocket, he was approached by 3 young guys, one wearing a ski mask, tugging on my son's bag attempting to rob him. My son then tried to run away and had 24 shots fired at him with a semi automatic/switch clip firearm. My son was hit with bullets that went through his left elbow, followed with a significant graze across his chest and through his left arm, which shattered his bone and grazed an artery that resulted in needing a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood lost. He was transported to a hospital where he was stabilized and is now recovering with possibility of surgery in the coming days.

My family and I humbly ask for funds and assistance to relocate out of the area we are currently residing in. After this traumatic incident, we realized as a family we are wanting to move to another area as we focus on his recovery mentally and physically.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge the picture displayed above which shows the areas, times, and dates within a 48 hour period of gun violence in Minneapolis, which breaks my heart as both a community member and a mother. Through all of this tragedy, I feel compelled as a mother to focus on first helping my family to feel safe and recover. Next steps will be to address and advocate for a safer community.
