Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to you with a proposal. Our community is in pain and I know that many of us have a deep desire to take meaningful action. My son, the love of my life, is facing years of incarceration because he is accused of engaging in an act uncharacteristic of the person I know him to be. While I in no way condone the act, I know that Azrael has been enduring ongoing trauma for the last six years. Although I am humbly soliciting monetary donations so that I can pay for a private lawyer, I know that Azrael's pain is not unique. Our community at large suffers. Therefore, for each $400 dollars that is generously contributed, I vouch to work one full day as a volunteer social worker with Mission community youth. I have recently obtained a Master of Social Work degree and I commit to applying my new knowledge and the 22 years of teaching experience to help restore peace to our community.
