Asians Fighting Injustice Stop Asian Hate Fund

Donation protected
Update 2/17/22: We are currently raising donations to support our Hate Crimes Victims Assistance Program. We have assisted over a dozen victims of violence, and their closest families and friends. Our assistance includes crisis management, raising awareness (collaborating with media, organizing rallies & vigils), fundraising (helping set up trusts and launch GoFundMes), paying for mental health counseling (in partnership with multi-lingual mental health providers), and connecting victims with top pro bono legal counsel. Your donations will help make this program possible and will cover things like mental health sessions, transportation costs for victims & their families, covering the cost of rallies & event, and making sure the program is run with the highest degree of professionalism. AFI is currently 100% volunteer run, and your donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Asians Fighting Injustice is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to uniting the AAPI community in fighting against the rise in hate crimes & racist attacks. Our goal is to stop Anti-Asian hate crimes in NYC. In 2020, NYC had an 800% increase in violent hate crimes against the AAPI community, and a 350%+ increase in 2021. We are dedicated to enacting real change to reduce hate crimes against our community through continued modern-day activism and creating real, systemic change.

Your funding will help continue to operate our organization dedicated solely in fighting against hate. All donations will be tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law as provided by the IRS. Currently the organization is currently 100% volunteer-run, with 60+ volunteers donating their time.

Your funding will be making the following possible:

Modern Day Asian Activism: Hosting events, like rallies, marches, and community service events, is one of the most effective tools in spreading awareness, gathering support and mobilizing communities. Our goal is to continue to lead a sociopolitical movement dedicated to stopping Anti-Asian hate crimes, battling racism, and developing community-based policies.  We have already begun seeing positive social change as a result of our activism. Following our founder’s first rally, we learned from elected officials that the momentum coming from that rally helped them in their negotiations to expand New York State’s budget allocation for AAPI communities from $300,000 to $10 million dollars! We’re grateful for all the hard work that community organizations have spent in making that change possible, and are proud to see that we contributed to the process. We firmly believe that continued activism will lead to real-world changes.

Funds raised here will go towards making sure that we can continue to host events for the community and ensure that they are safe and well-produced (e.g. permitting, security, A/V, etc.).

Asian Hate Crime Victim Support : We have already begun to support NYC hate crime victims, by connecting them to the best legal counsel, offering translation services, and helping amplify their story. With your support, we will continue to serve hate crime victims and assist their families. Funds will be going directly to support contract staff who can provide victims with the proper care, follow up with their cases, and collect data for more accurate hate reporting.

Intercommunity and Intracommunity Dialogue: We believe that the only way to reduce hate crimes is to host and highlight important conversations with other communities, and to have tough discussions within our own communities addressing our disparate needs. We will continue to host inclusive events focused on bridging divides, deepening allyship and developing common goals.

Anti-Hate Crime Policy Platform & Mental Health Reform: We are working to develop a realistic, implementable policy platform to address the rise in NYC's Anti-Asian Hate Crimes. Our goal is to protect Asian lives, while minimizing harm to other communities and we are working closely with the Asian American Bar Association of NY to draft tangible, passable policy suggestions.

Organization Launch: As a new nonprofit organization, Asians Fighting Injustice requires funding for the organization's infrastructure, operations, and administration. This includes, but is not limited to office supplies, rent, utilities, and hopefully one day staff, all of which is required to keep Asians Fighting Injustice running. As we are an impact oriented organization, we have set as a goal to cap all funding that goes towards launching our organization to 20% of all the funds raised, so that we can ensure that the overwhelming majority of donations goes towards community impact.
Resources: With your help we will continue to update and provide free community resources including -- the one stop website for all things related to the movement --, as well as to setup 1-888-83-ASIAN, a counseling hotline for those who have been encountered Anti-AAPI hate.
