Ashburn Family in Need of Home
Donation protected
Danielle Gorey of Ashburn, VA, and her two young children (ages 9 and 1) are going through a situation that she never imagined her family would be in… her husband recently abandoned the family, and the effects have left them homeless since July. Seeing that Danielle didn't have a place to store her household belongings, she gave away most everything to others in need. Since July, Danielle and her children have been staying in a relative’s basement, but their time remaining there is limited. Danielle and her husband previously worked at the same restaurant, but shortly after the abandonment, she was also without a job. Last month she was able to find employment, but is still unable to afford a place to stay. To rent an apartment, she needs first and last month's rent. In addition, she also needs to pay for childcare so that she is able to work. She has been without any financial assistance from her husband, and doesn’t have any savings.
Danielle and I used to be neighbors – we lived in the same townhouse community, but at that time, I didn’t know her well. All I knew was that our kids had fun playing together outside, riding bikes and playing laser tag. I looked forward to seeing her seasonal decorations; she always decorated her home beautifully for each holiday, with adorable decorations on her front door and steps. Last year she so kindly bought a Christmas wreath from my son when he was participating in a Scouting fundraiser. I didn’t have much communication with her as neighbors, but I could tell she was a nice lady who loved her family. Once I heard of her situation, my heart broke for her, so I reached out to see how I could help. We brainstormed community resources, like Good Shepherd, LAWS, and Mobile Hope, but those organizations were only able to help in a limited capacity. Since then, Danielle and I have become friends and I’m still trying to think of ways make her situation a little easier. My hopes are that through kind-hearted neighbors, our Ashburn community can help Danielle get back on her feet and provide a safe place for her family to live. Thank you!
