As seen on WGN Chicago: HELP US PROVIDE FRESH FOOD TO LOCAL SENIORS AND VETERANS!

Our Adopt A Grandparent Programs provide help and kindness to local low-income seniors who may not have a strong support system and our community programs help local veterans, military families, and families in need.

Following the unexpected death of both of my parents, our family chose to turn our grief into something positive, by restructuring our non profit organization to focus on local seniors who may need some love and kindness.

Our Adopt A Grandparent Garden Program provides fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers to our participating seniors as many are struggling with the high cost of groceries.

Our team and volunteers help tend a huge garden and what is grown, along with donations from the community, are used to set up Farmers Market's at the low income living facility's in our program. There our seniors can shop for FREE and have access to healthy, fresh food options! Any extra items we may have, are donated to local family's or food pantry's.

Fisher Outreach Group is a 501(c)(3), 100% Volunteer based Non-Profit Organization. That means that no one earns a salary or financial compensation for running our organization and 100% of any funds/items donated go directly to the programs we offer.

Your donations make our programs possible and allow us to continue to spread love and kindness to those who may need it the most.

Here's a breakdown of our program and how funds are used.

Step 1 - each participating seniors gets to choose what they would like in their own personal container garden. We've found that having a living plant to care for improves their emotional wellness. They have something to take care of and as many tell us..."a new friend to talk to".

Part 2 is gathering monetary donations to cover program costs and for those that prefer to donate an actual item, we collect donations of the flower pots, garden soil and plants. We then create the container gardens, which are delivered to the seniors. At this time we also seek donations of the plants needed for our garden and/or monetary donations to cover those costs.

We also collect plant donations that are delivered directly to the low income living facilities and panted in the garden spaces they have available on site.

Part 3 is prepping and planting the main community garden area. Lots of man hours and love go into the garden every year. We grow a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers that are distributed to those in our programs. Throughout the season we seek donations of plants for this expansive garden and monetary donations to cover the program expenses.

Part 4 is our Farmer's Markets. We visit the low income living facilities in our programs and set up a FREE Farmer's Market. Each senior is paired with a volunteer and they get to "shop" for the items they would like.

This program is amazing and it really makes our seniors feel special and cared for. In addition, we are providing them with access to fresh food, which many struggle to afford or have access to.

Monetary donations and/or donations of items needed are collected throughout the season. Many of our nursing home seniors request items like snack cakes, pudding cups, snack bags of chips/crackers/cookies, etc.

Monetary donations make it all possible and we have wish lists packed full of items needed for the programs or requested by our participating seniors.
