Arzeena Hamir for Area B

Arzeena Hamir is running for election in the Comox Valley Regional District’s Area B.

When Arzeena wins, everyone in Area B benefits by having  a fresh perspective and an intelligent, experienced, gritty, women who will voice constituents' concerns in a completely transparent manner. Arzeena has a track record of taking on food, land, water and other issues that face communities. Arzeena is a consensus builder with a dynamic record and she is listening to her constituents.

To get elected Arzeena needs signage, a web domain, social media links, printed flyers and promotion buttons. She needs funds to book meeting spaces so that she can hear constituents' concerns. This all costs money. Can you help by buying a sign or offering funds for a meeting room or pay for the domain name? The election is only a month away. So that means Arzeena needs your help today!

Arzeena is an organic farmer and founder of Merville Organics, a cooperative of 5 local organic farms. Arzeena has her Bachelor’s Degree in Crop Science from the University of Guelph and her Master’s Degree in Sustainable Agriculture from the University of London, England. She has worked in international development in Thailand, India & Bangladesh, primarily working with rural farmers.

In 1997 she returned to Canada and worked as the Staff Agrologist for West Coast Seeds. She was then hired to be the Executive Director for the Richmond Food Security Society where she oversaw the expansion of the City of Richmond’s community gardens and taught food growing classes. In 2010 she worked with Kwantlen University to launch the Richmond Farm School, an experiential farm course specifically for non-farmers. Just before leaving Richmond, Arzeena coordinated the campaign to declare  Richmond a GMO-free zone.

Arzeena  and her family moved to the Comox Valley in 2012 and began Amara Farm. She has been a volunteer board member of the Comox Valley Growers and Seed Savers, Fertile Ground, World Community, and the CV Multicultural Society. While her children were in elementary school, she helped to organize the Valley’s first Farm to School Salad Bar. The program was so successful that it has now spread to 5 schools in the Comox Valley.  Seeing a need to develop an educational hub for local farmers and growers, Arzeena helped to start the Mid Island Farmer’s Institute in 2015 and currently serves as its President.
