Hi, my name is Johanna, and I am Arya’s mum.

For many years, I have suspected that Arya has a neurodivergent brain, likely ADHD. While we managed through her early years, the challenges have recently become overwhelming. As she enters adolescence, the combined pressures of school and hormones are causing her significant distress and making it impossible for her to cope as she once did.

The good news is that her school is now fully supporting the need for an assessment. The problem is the timeline.

As an NHS Midwife, I am dedicated to public service, but my salary means the only accessible route is the NHS. The current Right to Choose waiting list is 18 months. This means Arya would receive a diagnosis right in the middle of her crucial GCSE exams. The emotional and academic impact of this delay will be devastating and potentially irreversible.

The Ask: Providing Immediate Support

We can't wait 18 months while her mental health deteriorates and her education suffers.

We are urgently trying to raise £1,400 to fund a private diagnostic assessment, which would mean she could be seen and diagnosed within a week. This immediate diagnosis is the first and most critical step towards getting her the proper support she needs to thrive.

If we are lucky enough to exceed this goal, any additional funds will be used for essential post-diagnosis support, therapy, or medication.

I know this is a huge ask, especially during the festive season. But witnessing the daily struggle of a child you love—as I did again this morning—is heartbreaking. A diagnosis and the right support is truly the Christmas miracle she needs right now.
