Arthurs Next Battle - Mobility

Donation protected
Hello, my name is David and I am raising funds for my son Arthur.

Arthur has a condition called Kleefstra Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that affects many parts of the body, including the brain, heart, kidneys, and genitals. It's characterized by developmental delays, intellectual disability, and distinctive facial features.

Arthurs has a rough time of it since he was born, where he spent the first 5 months of his life in Hospital, predominantly on a Ventilator - With multiple collapsed Lungs and other complications - There were times we did not think he would pull through, multiple times we were told to prepare for the worst as not enough Oxygen or Pressure could be pumped in to keep his Chest inflated or supply his body with what it needs.

But Arthurs strength came through, the strongest person you could ever meet - He finally pulled through and came home. He is a happy boy, who doesn't let things get to him. Arthur still needs Oxygen during the night or when he is unwell, and is prone to infections in his lungs so we still spent a lot of our time in hospital, where he doesn't complain while everyone else is.

Arthur is 3 now, you may recognise him as a poster boy for the Sense Charity, (Well, he is a good looking chap!) because he is partially sighted, partially deaf, and has severe intellectual delays. Also, due to the condition and the circumstances he has found himself in over the years, he also has no muscle tone. So Arthur is not mobile either, he can not yet crawl or walk, no matter how much he tries to or wants to crawl or walk, he is just not strong enough. But he has it in him, he loves being supported on his legs or his hands but just cant muster the strength to move and co-ordinate his limbs.

So, I feel obligated to give him the best chance to do just that, hence why I am raising money for him to do Intensive, Hydrotherapy sessions that can cater to his needs, and when he is strong enough, Intensive Physiotherapy - So that he may have the best chance of living the life he fought so hard to lead, to the absolute fullest. Also, because the condition is so rare, the results may turn out to be vital in understanding more about this condition and how to combat some of the many issues that it brings.

Hydrotherapy is vital as a starting block here, as it offers Pain Relief, increased Mobility, strengthening through water resistance, and improved balance.

I will start by participating in the 2025 London Marathon, so for the last few months I have been trying to build up my dodgy knees and lose enough weight that I will be able to finish it in one piece! Even though I have my own health concerns I am determined to do whatever I can to give Arthur the chance to succeed and surprise us all once more.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and any contribution however big or small will be greatly appreciated, if we were to amazingly reach the target, anything above would continue to be used to fund Arthurs specialised Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy treatment to achieve this goal.
