Arthur is soon to celebrate his 96th birthday on the 28th of August. Arthur is a former Captain, President and is now an Honorary Vice President of Bull Bay Golf Club and has been a member of Bull Bay Golf Club since 1966. Arthur’s chosen charity when Captain at Bull Bay Golf Club was Cancer Research UK, and he wishes to continue to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

Arthur lost his dear wife Jean on Valentine’s Day 2003 and then his daughter and often golfing partner, Sue, also on Valentine’s Day 2012, both to cancer. Arthur’s love for his late wife is immensely evident when he talks about their time together with the many stories of their adventures through life; and his pride for his daughter Sue, who was an extremely successful golfer, including her appointment as Curtis Cup team manager for Great Britain, which shines through when he speaks of her.

Arthur has decided to walk the entire length of the course at Bull Bay Golf Club to raise money for Cancer Research UK, which is an impressive feat at 95 years old, as the course is 6160 yards (5.6km)!

Despite a nasty fall earlier in the year, Arthur is determined to conquer the course with his trusty stick and the company of some members of the club to spur him on. He will start his walk on the 10th of August, aiming to walk a hole a day or more if he’s able. We will mark where he walks to each day, and then he will start from that point the following day. On his birthday, he will walk down the 18th on the 28th of August.

This is an amazing thing for someone of 95 to even attempt, but don’t bet against him, as he is made of stern stuff.
