ARTconnects

Since the COVID-19 outbreak ARTconnects has gone online to keep vulnerable migrant and refugee women and others connected during lockdown and beyond.

In response to the crisis in Afghanistan ARTconnects is supporting Afghan Refugee women with creative expression and human rights. ARTconnects is currently supporting evacuations of vulnerable, isolated women in Afghanistan and will support  those left behind in difficult circumstances by providing creative sessions on human rights, global issues and keeping them connected to the rest of the world, while supporting their mental health.

The money is vital to continue empowering women and promoting peace in communities where hate crimes have increased following increased racism and tensions in communities. The money will support the continuation of ARTconnects online workshops where people learn  creative skills, express themselves and build communication skills and self-confidence. The funds will help reach many participants in coming months - some of whom return on a regular basis - for knowledge on human rights empowerment &  mental wellbeing.

The objective of ARTconnects is to empower communities, prevent hate crimes and prevent extremism by promoting better cultural understanding between people of different cultures and faiths.

"This workshop has helped me be part of community. It's been amazing meeting people all over the world and I feel less stress and it helps me speak with people I don't know," Skala.

"It's really important for us to stay connected and I love art and learning more about it. I really enjoy the session and meeting new people and learning about each others culture," Maria.

This is the impact so far:
100% agreed to having a greater sense of community connection.
92% agreed to having made friendships with people of different religions
100% agreed to feelings of improved capability
69% agreed to feelings of increased self-respect
