This is a story of family.
I am telling you this because, while "Grammy's house" is important to our family, my sister's health and happiness is what REALLY matters. I'm hoping we can get a new roof/chimney for Kathy before she has to endure another Ohio winter.
As with many siblings, my sister, Kathy, and I have become much closer as adults. When our Grammy died in 1999, Kathy was able to purchase the 1950's farmhouse... where our dad grew up; where we spent most Sunday afternoons as kids - watching football, baseball or golf, playing cards or dominoes, being a family.
A couple years ago, the roof started leaking around the original brick chimney. Kathy had some work done to try to address the issue but all experts have told her she will need a completely new roof and chimney. She has tried, but was unable to get traditional financing, with the depressed economic climate in rural Ohio and plummeting property values.

Kathy is a registered nurse. She has always been a great caregiver. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 1998, she became the patient. At the time, she was raising her 13 year-old daughter alone. Surgery, chemo, and radiation took a toll but dealt with the cancer successfully... for more than 10 years.
As a home health nurse, Kathy has treated and cared for more patients than I can count... new babies, elderly folks and everyone in between. She kept working through all her treatment. Then in 2011, the cancer came back...more surgeries and stronger chemo. But the breast cancer metastisized to nodules in her bones. She will be on chemo for the rest of her life as there is no cure, only treatment, for this type of cancer.
She continues to work full-time as a home health nurse. She has reasonably good health insurance but medical bills keep coming. She gets tired, even exhausted some days... but her work is who she is - a smart, gentle caregiver. She is not one to ask for help...
How you can help
So I am asking... my sister has been through so much! She rarely complains and never asks for help. I want to help her literally "keep a roof over her head". Your contribution makes all the difference... whether you know Kathy or not, your kind generosity will keep her safe, dry and warm... and hopefully, warm your heart, too!
The target date is to get started with the project by June 2017. I truly appreciate your support in making this happen for Kathy. Thanks so much for your help!
