HELP US LINE ARODENE ROAD WITH BEAUTIFUL TREES

Imagine fluffy cherry blossom filled springs and fiery maple filled autumns. The sweet smell of magnolia in the air and the sound of the birch leaves swaying in the breeze. All from your window or as you stroll down our lovely road.

Trees are nice to look at but they have many environmental and health benefits too:

- PRODUCE OXYGEN AND CLEAN OUR AIR
Given our proximity to one of the most polluted roads in the UK, it’s crucial we do something to clean up the toxic air we all breath.

- FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE
Trees soak up carbon dioxide and store it so it can’t reach the atmosphere and trap more heat.

- ABSORB WATER TO REDUCE FLOODING AND KEEP US COOL
This helps reduce the effects of what scientists have called the urban heat island effect that makes cities much hotter.

- PROVIDE FOOD, PROTECTION AND HOMES TO BIRDS, INSECTS AND MAMMALS

- GOOD FOR OUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Nature helps humans to cope with the stress and anxiety of life in an urban environment. Particularly important after the events of 2020!

Arodene Road has lost half of its trees in recent years, which leaves us with just 10 between all 100 houses. And, the loss of our beautiful silver birch, which will be felled on 2 December, is the inspiration to kickstart our campaign.

Lambeth has committed to replacing some of the lost trees, but budget constraints mean this wont happen anytime soon. However, the Council does offer a tree sponsorship programme. For £480 Lambeth will create a pit, provide and plant a tree, guarantee it for the first three years and then maintain it for its lifetime. New specifications include soil treatments that will both encourage growth and prevent any impact on foundations.

Lambeth has agreed to match fund a tree for every tree we can fund up to seven. If we sponsor seven at a total of £3,360 we get FOURTEEN so everyone can benefit from them. This will really transform our road!

Tree type and location will be decided once we know how many we can afford but our aim is to ensure an even distribution. We hope that this will be an ongoing project and eventually we can plant trees in all the possible locations along the whole road.

This map shows the 10 existing tree locations:

The more money we raise – the more trees we can plant!

SO, HOW CAN YOU HELP...

Donate! 2020 has been extremely tough, but we hope that those who can afford to will contribute for the benefit of our whole community.

Fundraise! If you have any great ideas for raising funds then go for it! Let us know how we can help.

Spread the word! Please tell your neighbours, landlords or anyone you know who regularly walks along Arodene Road about our exciting campaign. Share our crowdfunding page via social media.

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

The deadline for the winter planting season is the 7th of December so we need to act fast.

If you would like to sponsor a whole tree (Hurrah!) or if you would like to object to a tree being planted outside your property, please let us know.

If you have children who would like to help us with planting and taking care of our new trees we would love to hear from you.

Lets work together for a greener and healthier 2021!
