My name is Aida Melik-Bakhshyan. I was born in Armenia and came to the states when I was 6 years old. This year for my birthday my only wish is for my all my friends, family, acquaintances, and anyone else who cares to help our community raise money for Armenian soldiers in this critical time.
I have been deeply affected by what has been going on between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The two countries have been strained by territorial and ethnic conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh since 1918. It has been an ongoing territory tug of war since the collapse of the Russian empire.
Today the conflict continues as possible war approaches. I'm sure many of you have seen the coverage on multiple outlets regarding the war, shelling, and most importantly the soldiers who are wounded and dying fighting for our country. I specifically came across four fallen soldiers (Junior Sergeant Smbat Gabrielyan, Junior Sergeant Grisha Matevosyan, Captain Sos Elbakyan, and Major Garush Hambardzumyan) whom I was deeply saddened to hear had passed. We constantly have soldiers wounded and fighting for their lives in our homeland of poverty and it breaks my heart to see the struggle. So many other solders are deeply wounded, injured and unable to provide for the families.
This year all this news has motivated me to use my birthday as a means to bring together mankind to help people less fortunate than us. We are so lucky to be living in this country and we take it for granted everyday. I really want us to come together and make a difference for these soldiers and their families, even if it's in this smallest way. I don't need any meaningless material gifts this year, all I ask is that you donate to this cause I have put together in any way you can.
I have already found a foundation that helps families of the victims, helps with medical bills of wounded soldiers as well as housing, rehabillitation and job training.
I would really appreciate all of your help. With all of the hate going on the world, a little kindness goes a long way. I invite you all to aid the less fortunate and be thankful with me for our blessings.
