What’s up guys, my name is Ariel Shrum and this summer I’ve been given the opportunity to join a group of like minded individuals on a mission to east Africa to bring music therapy to communities.
I’ll be traveling with UMOJA Global which is an organization that promotes sustainable music therapy practices in underserved communities, with a focus on women’s empowerment. In the past 5 years they have served communities in Kenya and Uganda by providing direct services, education, and outreach and have cultivated partnerships. They also have created a network of local musicians, Health care providers, teachers and community members alike.
Our goal is to leave these communities with therapeutic tools and techniques that they can continue to work with and practice for the rest of their lives. Umoja conducts bi-annual trips, quality improvement research, and training workshops to ensure that communities are left feeling empowered and supported through ongoing exchange and collaborations.
We will be working in schools, hospitals, safe houses and community centers with a variety of populations providing direct therapy groups, staff support groups and educational workshops.
I will be traveling with a group of music therapists who are qualified to provide therapy. As a professional performing musician and magician I am excited to contribute my skills to share and teach these arts. Ultimately I want to use magic and music as a tool to provide and promote levity and joy in these communities.
i’l need to raise 3000 to help me cover my flight to Africa and flights throughout East African countries, housing, meals and transportation to help me make this opportunity a reality. Your contributions will directly impact my ability to bring donations and service to the communities we connect with.
I’m so incredibly excited to be apart of this humanitarian effort to positively affect the lives of people around the world through the healing powers of music and magic.
Thank You and I cannot wait to share this journey with you !
