Urgent Action Needed to Save Area N in South Barrington
Residents of South Barrington and neighboring communities, we need your immediate support to stop the controversial sale of Area N to the PBCC. Despite promising transparency and public discourse, the Park District has tried to close this deal quietly, a day before they invited us to voice concerns. We've filed official complaints and a temporary restraining order, with a hearing set for September 5th.
Why Your Support is Crucial
Key Issues:
- Lack of Transparency: The Park District and the Village have been working with PBCC since January 2022, unbeknownst to the community. They've also misled us about how the sale would affect taxes.
- Selective Advertising: The Park District intentionally targeted residents least affected by the sale while neglecting to inform those who would be most impacted.
- Pre-arranged Sale: The Park District walked PBCC through Village pre-approval processes months before allowing the community to vote on the sale.
- Low-Key Auction: The Park District minimally advertised the auction, favoring PBCC—their single, desired bidder. They also ran the auction by themselves.
- Values and Future Use: PBCC's proposed use includes an elementary school building that contains a liquor store, conflicting with our community values.
- Ignoring Public Voices: Post the August 17th Village meeting, our attempts to gather more information have been ignored by the Park District while they covertly tried to sell the land before a scheduled public meeting. They had discussed the opportunity to vote on the contract and present the community's concerns to the Park District board at this meeting.
Area N has been a public space for 21 years, benefiting everyone. The proposed sale turns it into a private asset that serves no local resident.
