The Dundalk-based 69th Recruit Platoon is taking on a challenge to push our limits for two causes very close to our hearts.
On October 8th , our recruits will run in section from Aiken Barracks to the mast in Ravensdale and back — a total of 50 kilometres. This isn’t just a test of endurance for us; it’s an opportunity to give strength and hope to others.
We are running in support of:
Archie’s Army – Archie’s Army is a charity set up for a 7-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a serious condition that causes progressive muscle weakness.
With the progression of the muscle weakness, Archie is finding it hard to stand up and walk up the stairs. The doctor said most boys end up in a wheelchair at the age of ten and that the lifetime expectancy is shorter with this condition (early 30’s).
Archie’s parents Una and Kenneth set up a GoFundMe page for Archie as their initial goal was €550,000. They hope to send Archie for gene therapy in a hospital in LA which will cost his family €3,200,000.
As of now, the charity has raised €530,726.
The Irish Defence Forces have dedicated themselves where possible in raising money for this charity as Archie’s father, Kenneth is a Sgt in the Irish Defence Forces.
We, the 69th Recruit platoon are attempting to run 50km from Aiken Barracks to the mast in Ravensdale and back to barracks, to show our support for Archie’s Army and will also try and raise as much money for this great cause as possible.
Pieta (Dundalk) – Pieta (Dundalk) is a local branch of the Irish mental health charity Pieta, offering free, in-person support for people experiencing suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or suicide bereavement. Located at the Redeemer Family Resource Centre, the service operates part-time with no referral needed. Opened in response to local demand, it provides therapy, crisis support, and community outreach. It also complements Pieta’s 24/7 national helpline (1800 247 247) and text service (HELP to 51444).
Their work gives light to those in the darkest moments, and we want to help keep that light shining.
All funds raised will be split 50/50 between Archie’s Army and Pieta.
This challenge is not just about running 50km — it’s about standing together for hope, strength, and support.
Any donation, big or small, will make a real difference. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign to help us spread the word.
Thank you for standing with the 69th Recruit Platoon, Archie’s Army, and Pieta. Together, we can make every kilometre count.
