Meet my little fighter:
Archer Colt McGuire
Born August 29 2021 at 8:48am
7.89 Ib 20.75 inches.
When Archie was born, there was a lovely clear cry and he was handed over to the pediatricians on standby for a quick check over. I stared down at him in absolute awe-he was beautiful. My excitement soon turned to panic when they said he didn't "pink up" and was not breathing. I immediately started crying and went from happy to worried and confused. They gave him oxygen and took him to get x rays, then they came back quickly to inform us that our baby actually has some heart defects while I was in c section surgery. We were not prepared to hear this new devastating news. Hours later, they took my baby to Cook's Children's Hospital, where they had to immediately do a small procedure called a Balloon Atrial Septostomy, this to allow blood from both sides of the heart to mix together so my baby's body get oxygen-rich blood. We later learned that our baby has 3 heart defects. Transposition of the great arteries (TGA), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), and Coarctation of the Aorta. Archie will have to get an open heart surgery sooner than later. No parents would ever want to hear that about their baby, especially not being prepared. But I don't think anyone would prepare you for this anyways. Archie spend 11 days in the NICU, and it was time for his big day, surgery day! We were, excited, anxious, terrified, eager...so many emotions were circulating through our head and heart, but looking at Archie's sweet face quiets our minds. After 7 long hours, the nurse came and grabbed us to see him for a few seconds and told us the surgery was successful! My baby did good, and that's all I ever wanted to hear! Archie fought for his life! It was indeed the most scariest, thrilling, and most devastating day of our life. Yet, it's the most wonderful and precious gift from above, for he was able to get all 3 heart defects fixed once and for all...switched and stitched heart by the Grace and Faithfulness of our lord. We are expected a prolonged NICU stay for the road to recovery. So far my baby is recovering great. Archie, I'm still amazed of your bravery and courage. You are indeed the bravest little fighter I have ever met and I'm still and forever be in awe to God for hearing and answering our prayers. Thank you, Lord for entrusting him to us, for giving him another chance to see the world and be with us. I would like to to thank everyone AGAIN and AGAIN who supported and prayed with us during our darkest hours...Thank you so much for sending love and prayers for Archie❤ Also I'm thankful for all the doctor's and nurses, may God bless you a thousand folds! I can't wait to bring you home Archie! I love you to eternity my little FIGHTER!!!!!❤❤❤
