The past couple of months we have been working as volunteers at the Rise Above Foundation Community Centre in Cebu. The organisation is dedicated to improve the quality of life for underprivileged communities in Cebu, through education, livelihood training, and health programs.

Our focus has mostly been on a daily lunch program for the children (age 3/5) who attend a daily preschool as preperation for kindergarten. Together with the organisation we found needs to improve the program as: The health and sustainability.

The program runs on a one year donation system, which is barely enough to provide quality lunches for the children on the long term. So we have been looking in to ways the organisation could be more independent to sustain longevity for the lunch program.

This is why we want to introduce an aquaponics connected to their fishtank. An aquaponics is a sustainable way of growing vegetables or fruits. It works by cycling water through the fishtank up to the plants and back down. This connection is a mutualismic connection, because they provide eachother nutrients without any harm done to one another.

With the aquaponics the foundation would be less dependent on donations from extern companies, and can focus on their own (vegetable) growth instead!

The only problem for now is that their is no budget to get the equipment needed, which is why we have started this crowdfunding. Every cent donated is one step closer to sustainability, indepency and less malnutrities children.

After this crowdfunding concludes we will be keeping you updated with the results. Every cent donated will go straight towards this cause and the leftovers will be donated to the foundation.
