GROUNDWORK FOR APRC’S RETURN TO GOVERNMENT
The Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC), ruled The Gambia between October 1996 and January 2017, and brought about unprecedented development in The Gambia like nothing we’ve seen in the 432 years before APRC.
APRC dubiously ‘lost’ elections in 2016 and had to leave office on 21 January 2017, unceremoniously, when the party was famously denied its democratic right. Our election petition was refused audience at Gambia’s Supreme Court by sinister players who have now run the Gambia to the ground. The same players are now facing growing calls to resign due to widespread corruption, incompetence and a near-total collapse of The Gambian State. It can be strongly argued that The Gambia is no longer a sovereign state.
APRC believes that the unfair conditions Gambians have been subjected to over the last 3 years, by the Barrow Government, cannot continue. The Barrow Government is the worst administration in the modern history of governance in The Gambia. These are unusual times for the Gambia, times that require unusual measures and somewhat unconventional methods of politicking to save our country. We feel collaboration between players will be a sensible move to rescue our dear country. To fight the incumbency, generating funds will be central and crucial. To affect the much-needed change in The Gambia, APRC would like to ensure finances are secured. Without funding, we will not be able to secure material we need to reach out to communities to offer them a way out of the deep dark abyss the Barrow government has plunged Gambia into. The APRC will look to engage any serious player in The Gambia and abroad, with the sole aim of regaining our full sovereignty and ending economic decadence.
As a political party with an unrivalled development history and an enviable power of mobilisation, the APRC Party was feared by Barrow Government, from the very minute that they took over from us. Despite the APRC assets and accounts being completely independent of its Party Leader, the former President, Yaya Jammeh, the current Gambia Government, cynically and illegally impounded our equipment and vehicles as well as stopped us operating from our headquarters. The government froze our Bank Accounts, under the pretext that the Political Party was owned by Jammeh. The Commission of Enquiry, which was instituted by The Barrow Government, named the Janneh Commission, found no incriminating evidence against the APRC party when they investigated Jammeh’s financial dealings, between 1996 and 2017. Jammeh and APRC are very separate legal entities. The Barrow Government knew the above but deliberately confiscated all APRC materials and finances in order to disable the mighty political machine. They failed! Despite the last three election cycles having been conducted with APRC fighting with its hands tied behind its back: with no funds and no material, all confiscated even before the Janneh Commission sat, we contested the elections and retained some seats in Parliament and Local Government. We consider the elections in 2017 and 2018, NOT FREE and NOT FAIR. The Government’s move was cynical!
APRC also refused several provocations from the ruling coalition and continued to work on the ground peacefully. The magnificent reminders of our legacy when we were in government, conspicuous in every corner of The Gambia, coupled with Barrow Government’s futile attempts to undo our enviable record or attempts to tarnish the party’s image backfired and the popularity of the APRC is on the rise again.
As our stock rises, we feel the best way to confront the Barrow government, since our accounts are beyond reach, until we instigate legal proceedings, we would like to crowdfund and take the government head-on, for illegally freezing our accounts and forfeiting our equipment/vehicles. The funds raised will also fuel our internal reorganisation and democratisation, in readiness for next year’s Presidential Elections in The Gambia.
We are confident of an APRC win in 2021, as new members begin to join the party, and as our departed members start to return. We are quite encouraged but we cannot achieve our aims and objectives without financial help from you. The future of The Gambia is at stake and from experience, as a nationalist party, and a Pan-African organisation, we will restore our past glory and kick on from where we left off. Once again, we will be the pride of Africa.
Thank you in advance of your support. APRC Executive!
Long Live The Gambia‼️‼️
