The King Family

Friends and Family,

As many of you may know by now, Andrea (aka "Andie") was admitted to Children’s hospital in the beginning of June with severe pre-eclampsia at just 29 weeks gestation. Due to the severity of the condition, the doctors felt it would be in the best interest of her health and that of their baby boy for her to stay in the hospital until his birth, which they are hoping won’t be until 34 weeks. As a result, Andie has had to temporarily close her bakery for a few months. Unfortunately, there is no disability or paid family leave when you’re the owner and sole employee of a business. So, not only has this closure led to a loss of one of their family’s sources of income, but she is also still responsible for paying rent, utilities and expenses for the bakery while she is hospitalized and completely out of commission. The first few years are the most difficult for a small business, and this has surely been a devastating blow for their family and her small business.

Andie will be in the hospital for no less than 5 weeks, and then will need to recover before reopening. We also know that being born at only 34 weeks, Baby King will need to spend some time in the NICU, which will likely result in more time off needed for both she and Sean as they care for the newest family member.

Please remember all the times Andie took on your last minute order, or gave your non-profit a discount. Every time she made you a meal or was there when you asked her help with something. Andie has always been a giver. She loves her family, her friends, and the community in which she runs her business. It has truly been difficult for her to be forced to close the bakery while hospitalized and on bed rest. She would love nothing more to be baking away down in her little kitchen, and she can't wait until the day comes that she can re-open and get back to baking up all your favorite confections.

Andie, Sean and the kids are so grateful for the outpouring of kindness that they have received from everyone. They truly have a wonderful community of people rallying behind them.
