Applegrove's 20th Annual Donation Bake Sale

Tax deductible

Applegrove's 20th Annual 9/11 Bake Sale looks a little different this year due to the Corona virus, but thanks to the supportive response of friends and neighbors it is still on!

As always, all proceeds will go directly to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts. Baked goods will still be made and will be delivered to the front line worker of your choice. The idea is for this to not only thank healthcare workers but to thank everyone who has worked in the midst of this unprecedented pandemic. That includes mechanics, public transit employees, pharmacists, waste disposal companies, hardware stores, gas stations, pharmacies, post offices, banks, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and a long list of others.

If you would like to recognize a friend or family member or community based services by providing a donation for baked goods to be sent to them, please include the information with your donation or contact this event organizer (link provided above) to provide details.

Information to include:
Facility/department/person (if designated to an individual)
Location
Business location contact phone number
Any known allergies
Any requests for specific goods

Once your donation and request have been received, Applegrove neighbors will be able to sign up to fulfill the request either through baking goods, delivering the baked goods, or both.

The basis of this bake sale is to unite under the common desire to support Americans in need. We have traditionally donated to American Red Cross and will continue to do so. Donations made through this GoFundMe are sent directly to the American Red Cross, without need to deposit into a personal account or perform additional unnecessary transactions.

If you with to donate to a different nonprofit organization that you feel best represents the ideals of this bake sale, I encourage you to do so!

If you would like to donate to the bake sale itself without request for baked goods, please indicate "Donation only"

Donations and requests will be accepted through the end of September 2020, at which point this GoFundMe will be closed out and the total amount raised will be donated to the American Red Cross

Who am I?
My name is Kelly James. I started this bake sale when I was 12 years old on September 12, 2001. I was in 7th grade, pulled out of English and brought home where I watched the live footage of the twin towers collapsing. When schools were closed the next day, I knew I had to do contribute in some way. I continued the bake sale year after year until I started college. At that time, the Applegrove neighborhood kids came together and kept the tradition alive. As kids have grown and left for higher education or military or moved away, the torch has been passed again and again to keep this going for 19 years. I am touched that this contribution to the community has been able to continue uninterrupted for so long and couldn't be more proud of being from this neighborhood.  Please, support me in remembering 9/11 and giving thanks to our front line workers as the US finds herself again faced with a national crisis.
