We achieved our original target of raising £5,000 for the development of the Pocket Angel Assist app. The app exists and has been used to demonstrate how the vouchers are produced in the app and redeemed by service providers. The good news is we have service providers in Brighton who are ready to accept the vouchers in exchange for essential products such as hot and cold drinks; hot meals; sandwiches and cakes. We still need businesses who can provide hygiene and pet products, so please get in touch via www.pocketangelhome.co.uk .
There is a lot more work that needs to be done and we will need more funds to give us a working budget to pay for app maintenance and feature upgrades as well as the running costs required to setup the not for profit organisation. Please donate to help us achieve our goal of a successful pilot of the app in Brighton in Autumn 2019.
For those of you visiting this page for the first time, here is the background story of why I launched a Gofundme campaign to develop the Pocket Angel Assist app.
The idea for the Pocket Angel app occurred to me when I walked pass a homeless man outside Vauxhall station in the summer of 2016. I wanted to give the man a meal but was aware that there were no nearby restaurants and to tell the truth, I needed to catch my train. Giving the man cash was not an option as this is not recommended as some homeless have drug addictions and may use the money to purchase drugs. What if I could give the man a voucher to get himself a meal or accommodation for the night? This was the lightbulb moment!
The Pocket Angel app provides a cash alternative in the form of a voucher which has a secure 6 digit code which you can give to a homeless person to redeem for essential products from businesses who sign up to accept the Pocket Angel voucher. You buy the voucher using the app, give the code directly to the homeless person or opt to have a charity give the voucher to a homeless person on your behalf. However you choose, it's really simple as the businesses only need to be told the code, presentation of the printed voucher is not required.
The voucher will be redeemable at vetted food outlets, pet shops, supermarkets and pharmacies. Providers of services will be provided the Pocket Angel Service Provider app which allows them to redeem vouchers. On redemption of a voucher funds are transferred from the Pocket Angel account to the relevant business account automatically.
Please help me and the team make Pocket Angel a reality by donating and spreading the word. Together we can help alleviate the suffering of homeless rough sleepers; restore dignity and give hope.
