Why this work matters
Today, many LGBTQIA+ migrants in New York and across the United States face urgent challenges:
- Difficulty understanding and navigating asylum or immigration processes.
- Missed legal or medical appointments because information is not clear or accessible.
- Interrupted healthcare, including HIV treatment, or limited access to essential services.
- Housing abuse, workplace exploitation, or discrimination without knowing their rights.
This is not a lack of determination. Too often, the information people need is simply unavailable in Spanish or arrives too late.
About me
My name is Yonatan Matheus, a social worker and LGBTQIA+ human rights defender.
Through independent community work, I create and share resources in Spanish, provide guidance to migrants and asylum seekers, and promote access to reliable information on migration, human rights, well-being, and HIV response.

¿Por qué este trabajo importa?
Hoy, muchas personas LGBTQIA+ migrantes en Nueva York y otras partes de Estados Unidos enfrentan desafíos urgentes:
- Dificultades para comprender y avanzar en sus procesos migratorios o de asilo.
- Pérdida de citas médicas o legales por falta de información clara y accesible.
- Interrupción de tratamientos, incluido el tratamiento del VIH, o dificultades para acceder a servicios de salud.
- Situaciones de discriminación, abuso en la vivienda o explotación laboral sin conocer sus derechos.
No es falta de voluntad. En muchos casos, la información simplemente no está disponible en español o no llega a tiempo.

Soy Yonatan Matheus, trabajador social y defensor de derechos humanos LGBTQIA+.
De manera independiente, desarrollo y comparto recursos en español, oriento a personas migrantes y solicitantes de asilo, y promuevo el acceso a información confiable sobre migración, derechos humanos, bienestar y respuesta al VIH.
