Anjuman-e-Islamia was a charity established in the heart of Faisalabad, Pakistan well over 50 years ago and still runs to this day.
The charity consists of many sub-establishments, such as a women's college, medical dispensary, boys' school, and boys' orphanage by the name of "Apna Ghar" which translates directly into "our own house".
The orphanage is in desperate need of expansion as the number of intakes increases week on week and has begun construction of extra rooms. However, they are at a shortfall on funds and aim to complete the construction of the rooms before the peak summer season.
Around 4-6 boys share one room each at the moment, so not only will more room allow for more children to be taken in, but also more space for the existing children.
I feel personally connected to the charity as it was my great grandfather, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad who had established it during his time as Mayor of the city. But more so as I had recently visited Apna Ghar to host a lunch, distribute goodie bags, and even host an informal talent contest amongst the children.
