The far right have been holding anti‑immigration demonstrations with racist messaging outside a hotel every Saturday for several months. There has been a real need for counter‑demonstrations to show that Newcastle stands against hatred.

What’s rarely acknowledged is how costly it is to organise actions, and these Saturday counter‑demos are no exception. Two comrades have been using their own money to create a safer space with seating and refreshments for those attending.

This is a call for solidarity with the two comrades who have been a constant and much‑needed presence at these demonstrations. We’re raising mutual aid so they can be supported for the costs they’ve already covered, and because the responsibility for creating a safer space shouldn’t rest on just two people — it’s something we all share. This is what community should look like.
