On June 10th, my dear friend and brother Anthony Covert will walk out of the doors of the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) a free man after 15 years of incarceration—he was recently granted clemency by the Washington Clemency & Pardons Board.

We are setting this GoFundMe up to assist him in his transition home—the hope is to ensure he is as comfortable as possible. Successful transition out of prison requires an array of safety nets: employment, housing, and support/love from the community. All funds will be transferred to Anthony to assist with clothing, rent, the furthering of his education, and other basic necessities.

"My name is Anthony Covert and I am a 33-year-old multiracial man who is being released after 15 years in prison. I came to prison at 18 years of age and during my time I struggled to find who I was. Throughout this time I focused on refining who I was and building towards the man I am supposed to be.

Who I am today is not the same person I was when I came in. I have learned that life is not meant to be taken for granted and every moment I have spent knowing that, my life has been full of so much more peace. As a survivor of many systems like foster care, prison, and others, my goals are to help young people understand their value and help guide them from the path of choices that led me to my confinement.

The funds that I would receive would go towards a lot of my everyday expenses to help my transition be a more productive one. I would use it for rent, phone, clothes, food, license, and other life expenses that I will soon become acquainted with.

The thing I am most excited about for my release is being able to reintroduce myself to the world as the man I am today and put behind the young man that I was. Spending time with my family and friends without the restrictions of confinement and most of all continuing my efforts to be a light for others.

I am thankful for the opportunity to come back into society and become a pro-social member of it. Words can't express my gratitude and thank you to all the people that will be showing support.
