Anthony's Fundraiser for No Kid Hungry
Donation protected
As many of you know, I will be celebrating my birthday this coming Saturday, January 23rd. I want to do something truly special as I ring in a new decade by running my first ultramarathon - that is, 1 mile for every year spent on this planet, for a total of 30 miles (something I never would have imaged doing had you asked me 5 years ago!). And I’d like to fundraise for “No Kid Hungry,” a non-profit that works to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the US and around the world. Their mission is to end childhood hunger, which has been significantly impacted by the raging pandemic.
The impacts of the pandemic and the economic fallout have been widespread, but are particularly prevalent among Black, Latino, Indigenous, and immigrant households. These disproportionate impacts reflect harsh, longstanding inequities — often stemming from structural racism — in education, employment, housing, and health care that the current crisis is exacerbating. A recent analysis projected food insecurity to increase by 49% due to COVID-19, that’s an increase of 17 million people from pre-pandemic times.
The face of hunger, living with poverty, and the financial struggles to provide for family and loved ones is more familiar than you think - they’re people we engage with every day. The fact is, everyone deserves access to the nutritious food they need to thrive, no matter who they are and where they come from.
So I humbly ask that you join me in my efforts to raise money for No Kid Hungry. $30 can help provide a child with 300 meals all year long!
