Hi, my name is Jorge Daguer, I’m a Colombian gay man who has just received his refugee status in the United Kingdom.

I had to leave my country because as an environmentalist, while trying to defend Colombian rivers and forests from being polluted by international companies, I was targeted, and there were attempts to end my life. Unfortunately, my younger brother who was also an environmentalist was killed for the same reasons, and the government did nothing to find the responsibles behind it.

I left my country and went to Bolivia, but I was found, and another attempt to kill me was made, and I ended up in the UK.

I am happy my claim was accepted, but unfortunately, throughout my asylum

process I wasn’t allowed to work or save money, otherwise I’d lose my right to claim asylum.

On the 15 of March of 2025 (after a year and 2 months) I was notified about the positive outcome of my case, but I was also told I was being evicted from the temporary accommodation provided by the government. (I need to vacate by the 13 of May 2025)

Now, without time to find a job and no savings, I will end up homeless unless I gather enough money for a deposit and first month’s rent. (£1000)
