Anoxic Brain Injury - Lorna's Story

I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt request for support at this challenging time. My beloved sister Lorna, age 57 has had a devastating event coming back to Hawaii from her visit to the Philippines. It started on Friday morning ( March 29, 2024). She was having breathing problems. My sister was accompanied by one of her daughter to get a check up at Kaiser urgent care. She was examined and did an x-ray. Results came back all normal. Later went home with prescription for an inhaler. The following day her symptoms did not improve. With her two daughters at that time they called 911 but unfortunately she went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated for nearly 15 minutes. She was taken via ambulance to Queens which was the closest hospital . My sister is now in ICU dependent on a ventilator for 10 days. According to one of her doctors, they found out she had a very large blood clot that started from her leg that travelled to her lungs and heart. She was given different series of anticoagulants and antithrombolytic drug called tnkase as her treatment through an art line. Overnight she was kept stable. She continued her treatment at Queens hospital but due to insurance purposes she had to be transferred to Kaiser Permanente Hospital. That night she had to have an immediate surgery on her leg to put a filter in for the blood clots to prevent it from going into her lungs and heart. My sister is now requiring an extensive medical care . She's fighting very hard. Because of the severe damage to the brain for not having an oxygen for nearly 15 mins my sister suffered an extensive brain damage and also bleeding from the side effects of her treatments. Her MRI result shows she has an anoxic brain injury and her prognosis is persistent vegetative state. This devastating news had me on holding on to hope and faith that God is now in control. I have to stay strong for my family because I know God is healing and there is hope. My entire family was shaken as we continue to face more health challenges along the way. We are near our breaking point but we are continuing to pray for God's healing miracles and leave everything in God's hands. In this difficult time , together with my family, we are humbly asking for support to ease the burden on our household. Your generosity in any form would mean the world to us as we navigate this challenging journey. For those who are not able please continue to pray for our family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️With love and gratitude. Shirley, Castro and Hadloc Family
