Introducing Another Day Begins - a charitable project and movement created to honour our Dad and carry forward his kindness, generosity, and love of food!

Anyone who knew my Dad knows he LOVED food -

Eating it.

Shopping for it.

Talking about it.

But more than anything, bringing people together around it.

He had a "more is more" mindset - both in terms of generous portion sizes(!) and, along with my incredible mum, in their inclusive, welcoming spirit.

We were always hosting, inviting friends and family to join us.

There was always room for one more around our table.

And Dad hated the idea of anyone going without or feeling lonely.

(On some Christmases, Dad and I would do food delivery runs for organisations supporting care home workers).

It might be less well-known that Dad had a little catchphrase. When we were kids, he’d wake us up in the morning with, “Another day begins!”

It was just a silly, playful thing - but now it embodies a mindset he had.

Dad approached each day with childlike excitement and an incredible ability to find joy in the little things.

I started Another Day Begins to continue Dad’s beautiful, generous energy and to create something positive from the tragedy of his leaving us too soon.

It’s a community-led social-impact movement dedicated to fostering connection through shared breakfasts. Inspired by that simple morning phrase and driven by Dad’s warmth and generosity, we’re here to tackle hunger and loneliness - one breakfast at a time.

We’re partnering with fantastic organisations doing incredible work:

The Trussell Trust food bank, whom I’ve worked with before. They provide vital parcels to those in need. And in recent times with the cost of living crisis, this need has been growing rapidly.

St. Luke’s Community Centre, in the heart of Islington where Dad’s beloved Arsenal is based - creating beautiful meals, activities, and support systems for the isolated and vulnerable.

We’ll support through two main initiatives:

- Breakfast parcels for families, with heartfelt handwritten notes to lift spirits.

- In-person breakfast clubs with fun and humanity (as Dad would have wanted) at St. Luke’s Community Centre, aimed at alleviating loneliness and fostering community.

Your donations will go directly toward:

- Fun food parcels

- Community breakfasts and supportive activities

Another Day Begins is a simple reminder of hope and new beginnings - a way for us to bring joy, support, and food to those who need it most, helping them start the day with positivity.

Join us in spreading kindness, building connections, and continuing Dad's legacy of generosity and community.

If you want to learn a bit about why my Dad was so amazing - I've written about him here - https://open.substack.com/pub/katiebriefel/p/what-constitutes-a-life-well-lived?r=1g632&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Thank you so much for your support! It means so much.
