The beginning of the worst day - Saturday, September 16 at about 8:00 PM, I received a message from one of Annika's rodeo teammate's mother that their was an emergency and I needed to call the coach at Three Rivers College ASAP. I called the coach and he said he saw Annika's horse Chicka saddled in the pasture without Annika. He went to see what was up and found Annika unconscious. He called 911 and she was transported to the Poplar Bluff region hospital. After doing a catscan, they determined that she needed to be airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital.

Annika Olson, 18, of Redbud, Illinois, a freshman on the rodeo team at Three Rivers College required emergency brain surgery due to a head injury sustained while training her horse. She had a hand size piece of her skull removed because her intracranial pressure was at a 60. A normal persons is 7-15. She is in a medically induced coma until they can get her body to regulate all its systems properly. Annika has been on full life support since being found. The family still has no answers as to how this happened to Annika.
She is going to require long term care at a specialized facility as soon as she is stable enough to leave the trauma ICU and standard care of the hospital.
Then in a couple months she can have another surgery to replace the piece of skull that was removed.
Due to the severity of Annika’s injuries and the care needed. The family could use all the support they can receive. There is a lot of driving involved and a lot of missed work for Matt and Krista.
Even with good health insurance, the medical bills coming in are astronomical.
