Hi, I'm Annabel. I'm 14 years old and I am a young leader for Brownies and Guides. I've been selected for an amazing opportunity to volunteer with Guides for 12 days in Cambodia next summer! The trip is on the theme of community, so during our expedition we will be volunteering at a local school and helping to build accomodation in the village we're staying in (as well as having fun!)
This is part of the Journey to Net Zero project so we will be living sustainably and offsetting all carbon emissions to ensure we don't have a negative impact on the environment. For example, we will only use public transport or walking when in Cambodia, and we will contribute to the environment through tree planting and building eco-friendly accomodation.
The organisation we are working with is called Beyond Unique Escapes and is located in Siem Reap. The project, which is named the Husk project, involves working with children in schools - doing skill exchanges and possibly teaching as well as tree planting and building sustainable accomodation with eco blocks.
This is an amazing opportunity and I am so excited to represent my town, Urmston and my county, Greater Manchester West. The trip will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to not only explore a beautiful country and immerse myself in its culture, but also to give back to nature and to help contribute to the community we will briefly be a part of when staying in Siem Reap.
I greatly appreciate your support and I would be so grateful for any donations for my trip. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed so far, it is thanks to you that I can have this incredible, unforgettable trip.
