Hello, my husband (Ryan) and I (Amber) are hosting a family from Ukraine. Anna reached out to me two months ago in response to an online post we made offering to house a family fleeing the war in Ukraine. She, her daughter (Sasha), and their small dog arrived in Canada on April 20, 2022.

 

In Ukraine, Anna worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, most recently on an oncology unit. Sasha is 15 years old and just completed grade 9 this week online, writing her final exam at 3am.

 

They lived in a beautiful home, in a historic building right in the city center of Odessa. When the war started, they packed up some belongings into a couple of suitcases and fled their country, leaving their entire life behind. They stayed in Poland and Romania while they waited for their VISA to be approved.

 

We are helping Anna & Sasha with all the things that need to be done when you move to a new country. They are hoping to make Canada their permanent home but also grieve the loss of their life in Odessa, Ukraine. Anna is starting full-time English classes this week and then plans to look for interim work, hoping to return to work as a nurse one day. Sasha will start school in the fall and hopes to get a job at Starbucks. Both are hardworking, caring, strong women.
