This year Anna's 8-year-old cousin, Ava, was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, a rare bone marrow failure syndrome, causing a compromised immune system and inability to produce blood cells. After many months of doctor visits, hospital stays, and blood transfusions, Ava received a successful bone marrow transplant on July 1 and is recovering well. 

Ava received her life-changing transplant due to her generous matched donor, found through Be The Match, a global leader in bone marrow transplantation. Be The Match connects patients with their donor match for a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
